Abdominal Health Diary
Understanding your report

You can generate a report of the data you have been inputting into the Abdominal Health Diary after a few days; however you may find it more useful and meaningful to compare the elements you have been recording after a month. You are able to view a selection of reports based on the triggers you want to compare to your symptoms - just select the items you want to check using the drop down menus. The line graphs will help you to identify whether there is a link between your symptoms and various food and drink items/habits, as well as other lifestyle factors if there are peaks in similar places. To view specific details (those that you inputted into the text boxes), click on the item it is related to in the key.

You may find there is a strong indication that one specific dietary or lifestyle factor is contributing to, or worsening, one or more of your symptoms. However, it could be that there is a group of triggers affecting your abdominal health, so it is worth exploring every option. Regardless of your findings, you may be able to make sensible alterations to your diet or lifestyle, although it is important that you don't take any drastic action. Afterall, small changes can make a big difference to your abdominal health!

If you do not find any specific link between the common triggers you have tracked and your symptoms it may be worth continuing the diary for a little longer or completing more trigger options - you can even add your own. If you still don't identify any obvious relationship between your symptoms and commonly known triggers, do not worry. There are many other reasons why you may be suffering from IBS and it is very useful to rule out what is not contributing to your symptoms. You can discuss your findings with your GP who may be able to provide other solutions, and when lifestyle changes alone are not enough, recommend targeted treatments to relieve your symptoms.
